Sources and verification

How ShoeFixFinder works

Shop information comes from the shops themselves. Prices are published prices, not estimates.

ShoeFixFinder builds its directory using information published on individual shoe repair shops' own websites. We document services, price menus, mail-in policies, and other publicly stated details.

Each record must have an identifiable source and a checked date before it can appear in the directory.

01 — Sources

Where our information comes from

The primary source for a shop listing is the shop's own published website.

Shop websites

Shop names, locations, service descriptions, published menu items, and policies are collected from the shop's own website.

Published price menus

Numeric repair prices are collected only when the shop explicitly publishes them. Menu descriptions are retained to distinguish different types of work.

Mail-in policies

Mail-in listings require published information explicitly confirming that the shop accepts footwear by mail.

Source links

Each listing maintains a link to the published information used to support its record.

Source limitation

Third-party reviews, photographs, assumptions, and unrelated directory descriptions are not substitutes for a shop's own published service information.

02 — Verification

How listings are checked

A listing is evaluated against its original published source before inclusion.

01

Identify the repair shop

Establish the shop's published name, location, and website.

02

Inspect its published services

Record services that the shop explicitly identifies. Services are not inferred from photographs, general industry practices, or customer reviews.

03

Inspect published menus

Capture menu descriptions and prices as published. A service without a published price remains unpriced.

04

Check mail-in information

Record mail-in status as yes, no, or unstated according to the shop's published policy. Only an explicit published yes qualifies for the mail-in directory.

05

Save the source and checked date

Each record retains its source URL and the date the published information was checked.

03 — Price methodology

How published repair prices are handled

The price index is calculated from eligible published shop menus, not from assumed market prices.

Original menu wording

Individual menu items retain the wording used by the shop. Different repair procedures are not automatically treated as equivalent.

Published figures only

Only explicitly published prices are recorded as numeric menu prices. Quote-based services receive no substitute estimate.

Price attribution

Every displayed price identifies the publishing shop and its checked date, with a link to the source.

Comparable repair categories

Heel work, half-soles, full soles, stretching, zipper and boot work, and dyeing are handled as distinct service categories.

How a published price range is calculated

  1. Identify eligible published menu prices for a service.
  2. Compare only equivalent descriptions of repair work.
  3. Determine the lowest and highest qualifying prices.
  4. Count the distinct published shop menus contributing to the range.
  5. Identify the latest checked date among contributing records.

Every displayed range must include:

  • The observed minimum and maximum.
  • The number of contributing published menus.
  • The latest checked date.

No numeric range is displayed when there are no qualifying records.

Price disclaimer

Independent price research, not a quote. Figures are prices published by the source named, checked on the date shown; your price may differ.

04 — Mail-in classification

How mail-in policies are classified

Recorded value Meaning Directory treatment
Yes The shop explicitly publishes that it accepts mail-in repair. Eligible for the mail-in directory.
No The shop explicitly states that it does not accept mail-in repair. Not included in the mail-in directory.
Unstated The published information does not establish either position. Not included in the mail-in directory.

An unstated policy is not interpreted as acceptance or refusal. The directory preserves that distinction rather than making an assumption.

05 — Updates

Checked dates and corrections

Re-checking published information

The checked date identifies when the information was last reviewed against its published source. It is not a guarantee that the shop has made no subsequent changes.

Shop services, menus, prices, and policies can change. Visitors should confirm current details directly with the shop before arranging work.

Corrections and updates

Shop representatives and visitors can submit corrections or provide links to updated published information. Each submission is reviewed before any directory change is made.

Submitted information does not automatically replace an existing record or become a published listing.

Checked dates matter

A checked date describes the last verification against the cited source. Always confirm prices, services, and policies directly with the repair shop.
